(Australian) Sapphire Month in September

September is nearly here, and while we primarily focus on October's birthstone (Opal, obviously), we do have a soft spot for Sapphires, in particular Australian Sapphire.

Mined from the Inverell/Glen Innes areas in NSW, we love the variations in colour shown in natural Parti Sapphires, as well as the Golden/Yellow Sapphires, and the deep blues too.

Opalised fossils of newly discovered dinosaur species found in Lightning Ridge

A new species of herbivorous dinosaur has been unveiled in Australia, with the discovery having been found at one of the opal fields in Lightning Ridge (NSW).

And the really interesting part? The discovery also represent the most complete dinosaur fossil found yet, preserved in opal.

Australian Opal Centre given green light after securing Federal Government funding
